RAM’s 2018 Call for Scores

Updated: Apr 26, 2019

Submissions must be received by February 15, 2018.

Random Access Music is pleased to announce its ninth annual open call for scores. The members of RAM seek captivating new concert music, regardless of style, written for a trio of RAM players including Thomas Piercy on clarinets (B♭ and/or bass), Maya Bennardo on violin, and piano TBD. The winning composition(s), judged by our RAM panel, will be performed at the 2018 Queens New Music Festival by the RAM Players on May 20, 2018. Submissions are anonymous and composers MUST replace their names with a pseudonym on any pages in the score where their name appears.

The work should be a composition 6-12 minutes in length that utilizes all three instruments named above. It may NOT have been commercially published, or previously awarded a prize in any contest or competition, though it MAY have been premiered or recorded elsewhere. The work must have been written in the past 12 years and must be written for the entire ensemble; no subsets or substitutions will be considered. However, works requiring electronics are eligible provided any required technology, including playback devices, mics, cables, stands, speakers, etc., are supplied and operated by the composer or the composer’s representative.

There are no age, gender, or geographic requirements for submitting composers. Although we unfortunately cannot fund travel or hotel costs, RAM does strongly encourage submitting composers to plan on attending the concert. We would love to meet you! An archival video of the performance will be available to the winning composer(s).

This year we are ONLY accepting submissions electronically, as PDF files only.

Only the title of the piece, a pseudonym, and instrumentation may appear on the score. Be sure to remove your name from any pages it appears on in the PDF (cover, interior, copyright, etc.) Failure to OMIT your real name will result in disqualification. The file should be named using your pseudonym: “mypseudonym_RAMsubmission2018.pdf”

A second PDF document must contain your full name, pseudonym used on the score, address, phone number, and email address. It should be named using your pseudonym: “mypseudonym_contactinfo2018.pdf”

Submission Materials: (please no Word or Text documents, PDF only)

– 1 PDF Score, marked with a pseudonym, named: “mypseudonym_RAMsubmission2018.pdf”

– 1 PDF Information Document, named: “mypseudonym_contactinfo2018.pdf”

Failure to adhere to the submission guidelines will result in the work’s immediate disqualification.

No recordings – live or MIDI realizations – will be accepted, please do not send any.

Send your submission to scorecall@ram-nyc.org. All submissions must be received by February 15, 2018. Composers will be notified of the results by the third week of March 2018. The winning composer(s) must be ready to provide performance materials when notified and no later than March 20, 2018. Your Scores will be circulated among the judges only and the PDFs will be deleted after the contest.

Random Access Music (RAM) conducts a call for scores each calendar year. A facilitator, who is the only person to see your emails, receives the scores and presents them anonymously to the panel of judges comprised of the composers and performer members of RAM.
