RAM 2018-2019: Convergent Voices

We are pleased to announce our 2018-19 season, with main programs, satellite concerts, and the annual Queens New Music Festival. This season, we celebrate the diverse voices from home and abroad which make up the tapestry of chamber music today while honoring composers whose lifetime work has shaped the American concert soundscape. Our opening program, “Modern Americana,” celebrates quintessential American sounds from this century and last. The RAM Players will present music by Ned Rorem (in honor of his 95th birthday) and others along with a special performance of the Bernstein Clarinet Sonata to celebrate his centennial year.

RAM Presents: “Combo Bend” Thursday, March 7, 2019, 8:00pm, Sage Music, Long Island City, New York Friday, March 8, 2019, 8:00pm, Tenri Cultural Institute, New York, New York

Our second program, “Combo Bend,” will explore works for saxophone, violin, guitar, and contrabass with some taking inspiration from American popular idioms. RAM players join guest saxophonist Jeff Hudgings [of Anti-Social Music] and bassist Hilliard Greene in performing works by RAM composers along with music by Seattle Symphony composer-in-residence Alexandra Gardner, Matthew Taylor, and Hilliard Greene.

RAM Presents: “Consortium” at the 2019 Queens New Music Festival Friday, May 17, 2019, 8:00pm

Our final concert of the season, “Consortium,” is a program of music for strings, voice, and flute taking inspiration from Baroque consort combinations. Works by RAM composers will be performed, as well as music by the annual call for scores winner(s). Joan Tower’s Rising, for flute and string quartet is presented in honor of her 80th birthday season. More details to be announced, so be on the lookout for updates!

Queens New Music Festival 2019

The 8th Annual Queens New Music Festival will take place May 14, 16-19, 2019 at the Secret Theatre – 5 days of 9 concerts celebrating music rooted in the contemporary concert tradition and will evolve to explore convergent musics out of the experimental jazz, world, and other musical spheres.
